Random Movie RANT: The Lorax

This movie is the epitome of everything that is evil in this world. I've never seen any form of media take everything I hate in cliched plots and combine into this garbage heap only to label this as "The Lorax." This is my all-time least favorite film. Let's start out with the story, if you could call it that. So there's this kid who's played by Zac Efron who falls in love with a girl played by Taylor Swift. If that isn't a cliched recipe for disaster I don't know what is. Basically, the girl demonstrates another cliche by wanting to see a real tree and will marry anyone who can present her with one. You see, they live in a town full of plastic and there are no living organisms. So, the kid, called Ted, goes on a cliched quest to find a tree because he is too infatuated. But the plot is more "complex" as there's this evil organization who made the town that wants there to be no living things. Why? Because they want money. That's rig

Random Rambles: Books

Image
You walk through the mystical forest of Lorien expecting the feel the cold steel of and Elven arrow against your neck. You turn around to find yourself on a spaceship commanding a war against a multitude of aliens. A missile collides with your ship and you fall. You collapse in a disheveled heap in front of King Joffrey, prepared to beg for your life. Now I'll bet that most of y'all probably didn't know what I was referencing. In our generation, many people decide to opt out of reading books. Books seem trivial and at times hard to read. They fail to capture our imagination because they are just words on a piece of paper. Why not just use the technology at our hands? Isn't it much more engaging than a musty old book that's a hundred years old. You've probably heard many people say that. Going to the library seems archaic. Most people prefer to stay glued to their phones or their computers all day rather than reading from a book. They prefer to read online

Time Doesn't Exist

Image
I'd like to make one thing clear first of all. I consider that this world has two forms of time. The first form of time is what us humans use most of the time. This time involves years, eons, hours, months, and all the quantifiable forms of time. The second form of time is abstract. This is the fourth dimension that perceives different events happening at a different time. Without further ado, let's see why I believe the quantifiable time does not exist. Time is usually portrayed as an abstract idea. You can't really describe how time functions. Most people assume that time is linear progression. With this view you see timelines that details each event. If that were so, then how come time is so variable? How come time can be so intangible in our world? The time we use is time we apply to our surroundings is best seen by years, minutes, hours, and months. But these numbers can't be used to define time in our universe. In fact, a year is actually 365 days, 5

"A Clash of Kings" Review

You know how huge "A Game of Thrones" is? Well this book manages to be around a thousand pages which is two hundred more pages than the previous book. And "A Storm of Swords" is longer. This is one weird series. Without further ado, let's see how this holds up when compared to "A Game of Thrones." Since all of the characters have been established, the plot speeds along at a brisk pace. Arya is captured, Jon is going out beyond the wall, Stannis is trying to assert himself, Tywin is fighting Robb, Robb is doing nothing throughout the book, Catelyn does some stuff, Sansa is still stuck in King's Landing, Theon is trying to assert himself as king, Daenerys doesn't do anything, and Tyrion is being a boss. This book is full of twists and turns that left me really wanting to read more. This is one of the few books I can say that is a true page-turner. The conflicts that come along seem real and tangible and added depth to this book. Then the char

A Strain on the Friendship

Image
Sitting in that living room, I was angry. I was in my friend's house to play the Wii U with Toby, Wilson, and Andrew. I won't disclose my host's name for deference, but let it be known that I am enraged at him. Toby, Wilson, my friend, and I were playing Mario Party 9. We were playing this minigame which involved punching each other off a platform into the lava. Because we were all saints, we decided that we should all win first place by doing nothing. We waited for the timer to count down and by the thirty-second mark I was bored and started jumping around. Then he punched me off. I was this close to throwing the controller at him. I watched in horror as Toby and Wilson tried to avenge me but suffered the same fate I did. My friend won and did this victory dance while Toby, Wilson, and I were threatening to collaborate against him. Super Smash Bros. has nothing compared to Mario Party. When he won at the end, I swore to carry this grudge to my grave. Friendship is such

Random Rambles: Virtues and Morals

Is honesty a false virtue? As a kid I was always told to hold on to morals and virtues that holds society together. But more and more adults become corrupted to "sins" that define our human race. These sins are what made us thrive as a primitive species but this innate nature is being supressed in out society today. The line between virtue and sins is blurred now despite simplistic ways of viewing it as good vs. Bad. But are virtues and morals out of the picture now? Most stories would have you believe that you should find a set of morals and virtues that best suit your nature. This is how you would define yourself in a blurry world where such things are hard to come by at their purest. With your morals and virtues in place, life could never batter you down. As long as you hold onto yourself, you should find your Nirvana. Of course, it would be prudent to be open-minded on such affairs but the virtues should hold true. Thus I come to the crux of my argument. Are morals and vi

Random Rant: Facebook

All right y'all, it's balls to the walls. I'm gonna explain why I hate Facebook. You are entitled to your own opinion but this is just my rationale. Before jumping in, I want to say that I don't have a huge problem with the design or anything that the programmers of Facebook has implemented. This is mostly about the people who lurk on Facebook. But I do have a small problem with the design. Who else has a problem with the search bar? Like I tried looking up Chuggaaconroy a few times. Most of the time, I can find his page just by the first three letters but sometimes the name just doesn't want to pop up. I don't know if that's just a problem on my part, but it pisses me off. Anyways, my main gripe is that Facebook is very degrading. There are multiple ways it degrades us but let's look at our grammar and our time first. People on Facebook feel like they can scrawl an unreadable message half the time. Even if they know they misspell a word, they don

Movie Review: Monsters University

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I'm really late for this. But I've been busy for the past month...kinda. Anyways, here's the review. This is a prequel to the acclaimed "Monsters, Inc." Many people were pissed that it wasn't a sequel since the idea of a Boo and Sullivan relationship was tantalizing and they wanted resolution to Sullivan's torment. But, it's Pixar. Ya' know, the company that made "Cars 2" even though they said they'd only make a sequel if it was worth making. First off, I want to say that we can say that we are past the amazing period of time where Pixar could do no wrong. People feared that Cars would start Pixar's digressions from their masterpieces, but then Pixar made Wall-e, Up, and Toy Story 3 which were some of Pixar's best. Then Cars 2 came and everyone hated it. Brave came which was more pretty good, but not brilliant. Because I watched this movie this late, I knew the audience reaction was generally favorab

Random Rambles on: The Future

The future is something we are enthralled by. We may be petrified of it or we could be eagerly anticipating its arrival. We don't know what happens in the future and that's what makes us scared. We don't know if aliens, nuclear armageddon, civil war, political strife, technology, or whatever else will destroy us. We don't know if the future will mark the peak of human civilization with the destruction of natural environment or if it will mark the decay of humans due to our consequences. Judging by how things are shaping up, the future does not look pretty. Because of this, many depictions of the future exists that present their view on the bleak societal changes. One of these is "The Hunger Games." This portrays a society that regressed due to natural occurrences and to the dominating government that corrupts the humans. This is an interesting idea that is possible but I find that it is unlikely. After such disasters, most civil humans decide to work togethe

Zimmerman Trial Outcome Opinions

In case you've been sleeping under a rock, the Zimmerman Trial was about George Zimmerman killing Trayvon Martin. Supposedly, Zimmerman killed Martin because Martin was threatening him. There isn't definitive evidence supporting Zimmerman's claims that Martin slammed his head against the ground. The whole purpose of this case was to figure out if it was lawful to kill someone out of the self-defense Zimmerman discoursed about. When this news leaked out, people were initially outraged. Cries of Zimmerman being racist was heard through the entire nation. The family was traumatized; they believed that Martin wasn't a threat that Zimmerman said he was. Death threats were slammed in Zimmerman's inbox as the days passed on. Many people said that Zimmerman was lying about the entire situation in order to defend himself. These claims were made because of a call Zimmerman made to the police concerning Martin. Zimmerman mentioned something about, "F---ing punks"

"Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" Review

After hearing fanboys gush over this cartridge as if it was their first-born, I didn't get what the deal was. I watched NintendoCaprisun's lp of it and it didn't impress that much as compared to Majora's Mask. Even when I played this at my friend's house, it wasn't spectacular. But was that just because I wasn't in the generation who played this and looked upon it with reverence? Could be. Anyways, the story was your typical Zelda story. Ya' know, the three goddesses made the golden cheese, Zelda, Ganon, and etc. And time-travel. Can't forget that. So the plot isn't spectacular at all. I barely got engaged with whatever pressure Link had and preferred to complete sidequests as the world burned. The gameplay was pretty good. Though it isn't as fluid as Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, or Skyward Sword, it was the first so it is excusable. The L-targeting made its first appearance and for the most part, the transition from 2-D to 3-D was pret

Politically Incorrect Rambles: War

Image
This is going to be a new branch dealing with all my gropes with our present society. This is my own opinion and you can have a completely different viewpoint. Fine with me. Just bear that in mind along with the facts that I may get some facts wrong. Without further ado, let's plunge into the unfortunate terror that has plagued us since coherent civilization developed. First of all, let's deal with all the supposed benefits developed from war. In a war, the people of a nation will become a lot more patriotic. This gives a sense of loyalty to the country. If the country is on the winning side of the war, they could potentially reap the rewards by having their economy boosted. The country can gain the territory of the losing side or claim slaves as a result. But, speaking on modern-day terms with the U.S. as an example, that doesn't help. In fact, the trend with countries that have waged war against the U.S. have found that after they've lost, the U.S. would come in

Random Rambles: Weird Dreams

OK, this is gonna be my psychedelic adventures to my subconscious state that likes to plant weird and ambiguous thoughts throughout my adventures. Most of these dreams are so vague and abstract that I can't even talk about them. I'm just going to highlight some of my dreams and see if y'all can find some universal truth inside them. -The Inception dream. One time, I had a dream inside a dream inside a dream inside a dream. But, I hear you say that that's too far. The dream is too unstable. I don't know how I got this, but I remember about having a dream of some adventure. I was like Link, wandering around dungeons and whacking things with my sword. My adventures covered mountains, forests, caves, lakes, and  grassy hills. I don't know what I was doing, but my dream self seemed to know. Eventually, I woke up from that dream and I remembered it was the day I went to go see Rango. I was so excited. I went on a bus and traveled the city in search of a theater

Random Thoughts - Religion

Warning: Very controversial ideas. This can be considered somewhat offensive. Viewer discretion is advised. Would religion be followed as much if there weren't benefits? I've noticed that the common thread between each religion is reaping the rewards after some amount of labor/worship. But my question is, if you took that away, is there any point in believing in a deity? Let's set up a hypothetical example. Say there's your typical god and he builds the world and all that. He makes the animals and life because he's just bored and wants amusement. After that, the animals might know about this god, but what if the god simply didn't desire praise? No matter what, these animals would die with no afterlife even if they begged the god. Then what? What's the point of worshiping this god anyways if it doesn't give you anything. All it did that was noteworthy was create all beings. I get the feeling that there might be some feeling of thanks for the creation,

"A Game of Thrones" Review

Finally, I got off my lazy arse and got this book from the library. The copy, unfortunately, was in shambles. It felt like there was only one copy of the book in the library and the thousands of people who used it also wiped their butts on it as well. This book managed to have pages ripped out twice. One time it was just the map, the next time had seven hundred pages torn out. But I digress, we're here to talk about the book, not the library's unfortunate copy. First of all, I want to say that it's astonishing that this book hasn't been recognized in such a long time. Granted, I don't pay attention to popular books, but I do know that I haven't learned about this series since the TV show came out. Diving into this, the plot involves a conflict in the land they live in. There's rumors of creatures from the north, Varys and Daenerys Targaryen waiting to reclaim their throne, and differing factions in the Seven Kingdoms itself. There's a lot going on in t

Equestria Girls Review *Spoiler-Free*

After eagerly anticipating this release, I finally went to this puny theater to go watch this movie. Does the inclusion of humans make this a bad movie? Was it worthy of being part of the Friendship is Magic Universe? Was it show quality? Well, you know the answer is yes for the last one, it was made by the same creators. Well let's start with the premise. Twilight has recently become a princess and her friends are staying with her at the Crystal Kingdom. But while Twilight is sleeping, Celestia's previous student, Sunset Shimmer, steals the crown and brings it with her to a parallel universe with humans. My god, humans in my pony show? Twilight darts after Sunset with Spike and they must go to Canterlot High School and reclaim the crown at the ball. Right of the bat, this seems like a lackluster idea. I mean, come on, we've had millions of high school dramas. A parallel universe?  A formal ball? Sunset is totalitarian? Kinda typical. But you never notice how thin this pl

Unicorns = Dominant Race

As you may have guessed by the title of the blog, this is a ramble. Let's say we institute genetically-bred unicorns. The research would be funded by the government with our tax money.  The research turns out successful and the unicorns are massed produced. Pretty soon, every kid around the world has their own unicorn. What happens then? Well first off, let's talk about the utilities a unicorn would have. It has its horn which would be the focal point for using magic. This magic would be valuable in its conquest. Speaking of which, the magic might not be known to the researchers who made the unicorns. Suppose the unicorns have proteins that are used for magic. Well, considering that unicorns might have millions of types of proteins, how would they know which combination is the right one? Magic is therefore inaccessible to the general public. Even if the researchers know, it would be classified information. If the information leaks out, the only way for humans to get these pro

Les Misérables Review

After hearing all of my friends gush over how great this, I watched it. I was expecting quite a lot from this musical considering how many Academy Awards this was nominated for. Did this actually ring as a great film for me or was it a flop? Well, let's start with the story. Apparently, after the French Revolution, these under-represented poor people want to lead another revolution. The film never made it clear whether it is another revolution or just a continuation. Since I barely know anything about the French Revolution, I had no idea what was going on. Then there's the other storyline following a convict arrested for stealing bread. He goes on and helps people to prove his worthiness, but alas, the officer sees no good in him. As someone who never read the book or watched the musical, I didn't see how this had to do with France itself. I think the movie expects that the viewer would read the book to actually know the plot, but doesn't explain what actually happens
