Random Rambles: The Man in the Sky

Image
Religion has always been a controversial topic. Many people who have a specific faith tend to believe their belief to be completely true and reject others who have different beliefs. Religion is a powerful tool and I'd argue that religion is a form of propaganda. But the question I pose is if God created man or man created God? Of course, it doesn't have to be God, it could well be Allah, the three Hindu Gods, or any other deity. So who actually created our world and does that group of individuals or person actually exist? The problem we face now is how people tend to disregard religion because of the new scientific knowledge. It's no mystery why creationists are usually misguided and plagued with misconceptions. So many scientists or well educated people tend to regard these devoted people as inferior for being so ignorant to the overwhelming mass of information. The force that attempts to connect the two beliefs are the people who try to revise Scriptures or religious...

Random Nostalgia: The Twilight Zone

Image
You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You are moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed into the Twilight Zone. *Cue suspenseful blaring brass sounds* There's no doubt "The Twilight Zone" has had a tremendous impact on us. This was the  show of the early 1960s and everyone loved it. Critics everywhere were praising its visual style and its underlying messages attached with each episode. While this show may not seem so special to today's audience due to the effects seeming cheap, the show still holds up surprisingly well but most importantly "The Twilight Zone" tells a tale of humanity. It tells a tale of how humans can be subjugated to horrible conditions given the right amount of pressure. The convoluted plot with the various plot twists kept the audience waiting for the eventual resolution. Ev...

Random First Impression: Star Trek: The Original Series

Image
Star Trek is one of the biggest cult phenomenons to occur in our human history. The Trekkies, fans of the show, were perhaps the biggest geeks of the time and they blazed the way for the subculture of fandoms. Star Trek introduced a new era of science fiction and the fallout of this show was the focus on space exploration. Yet Star Trek didn't even have to occur in such a futuristic setting to portray its intent, it could've happened in a prehistoric era or somewhere else. Gene Roddenbury, the creator, only wanted to depict the human nature and have themes of morality and ethics litter the episodes, similar to how Rod Sterling envisioned "The Twilight Zone" to be. Of course, Star Trek blazed its way into our culture today with its idiosyncrasies. So I finally got the time to start watching it and I've started with the original series. Keep in mind I've only watched two episodes: the pilot and the first episode. So after coming into the show expecting so mu...

Random Review: The Girl who Leapt Through Time

Image
It's another Japanese animated movie. But it was not made by Miyazaki who is known for classics like Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. So I was kinda apprehensive of the movie since it was drastically different from the magic Miyazaki typically captured. Nonetheless, I was pretty optimistic for this film since I love animated movies a lot and I also liked the distinctive anime style that was a feature of the film. So to start off, the animation was a little jarring. There were moments were the animation was just plain and a little boring on the eyes but there were also some scenes were the animation was truly breathtaking. I don't know if this is just an aspect of anime in general or if Japanese people are used to this kind of flair but it definitely deviated from the creativity and finesse of Miyazaki films or American animated films. It didn't matter in the long run but the entire style seemed mixed. Next we get to the plot. The whole reason why time trav...

Random Review: The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug *spoilers*

Image
Now almost everyone was disappointed with the first chapter of the Hobbit. An Unexpected Journey  started off slowly and it didn't have the same Lord of the Rings vibe that the trilogy had. Many people left the theater disappointed and hoping that Peter Jackson could astound us with the second and third installments. Seeing as how The Hobbit is a children's book, it makes sense that it isn't as astounding as the Lord of the Rings trilogy but separating a small book into three movies was an astonishing decision. And so we're left tagging along for the ride as Tolkien fans like me will indubitably attack the film for deviating from source material or implementing stupid scenes. Well this movie was much better than the first movie. While not living up to the revolutionary status of the original Jackson trilogy, it still entertains and allows for good fun. The middle chapter was paced exceptionally well and the locales of this movie were amazing to look at. If Peter J...

Random Rambles: Does the Universe Exist?

Image
Here's a weird idea. What if everything we know to be true is false? What if our brilliant scientific discoveries never even came close to the truth? What if we are really pawns in the grand scheme of things that can be easily manipulated? For that matter, what if our universe is just one giant chess game or puppet show? Will the truth ever be revealed to us? Being as agnostic as I am, I tend to be cynical about many proven facts. Science is a fickle thing that is variable and constantly changing. With all these laws and theories being thrown around, it feels as though we've made great progress into discovering more about our universe. We've come a long way since the Scientific Revolution and the amount of new discoveries is mind-boggling as every new invention allows us to know much more. The agnostic view is diminishing as new discoveries prove even knowledgeable scientists wrong. The Higgs-Boson particle is a great example as many scientists like Stephen Hawking beli...

A Strain on the Friendship

Image
Sitting in that living room, I was angry. I was in my friend's house to play the Wii U with Toby, Wilson, and Andrew. I won't disclose my host's name for deference, but let it be known that I am enraged at him. Toby, Wilson, my friend, and I were playing Mario Party 9. We were playing this minigame which involved punching each other off a platform into the lava. Because we were all saints, we decided that we should all win first place by doing nothing. We waited for the timer to count down and by the thirty-second mark I was bored and started jumping around. Then he punched me off. I was this close to throwing the controller at him. I watched in horror as Toby and Wilson tried to avenge me but suffered the same fate I did. My friend won and did this victory dance while Toby, Wilson, and I were threatening to collaborate against him. Super Smash Bros. has nothing compared to Mario Party. When he won at the end, I swore to carry this grudge to my grave. Friendship is such...

Random Rambles on: The Future

The future is something we are enthralled by. We may be petrified of it or we could be eagerly anticipating its arrival. We don't know what happens in the future and that's what makes us scared. We don't know if aliens, nuclear armageddon, civil war, political strife, technology, or whatever else will destroy us. We don't know if the future will mark the peak of human civilization with the destruction of natural environment or if it will mark the decay of humans due to our consequences. Judging by how things are shaping up, the future does not look pretty. Because of this, many depictions of the future exists that present their view on the bleak societal changes. One of these is "The Hunger Games." This portrays a society that regressed due to natural occurrences and to the dominating government that corrupts the humans. This is an interesting idea that is possible but I find that it is unlikely. After such disasters, most civil humans decide to work togethe...
