Random Rambles: Books

Image
You walk through the mystical forest of Lorien expecting the feel the cold steel of and Elven arrow against your neck. You turn around to find yourself on a spaceship commanding a war against a multitude of aliens. A missile collides with your ship and you fall. You collapse in a disheveled heap in front of King Joffrey, prepared to beg for your life. Now I'll bet that most of y'all probably didn't know what I was referencing. In our generation, many people decide to opt out of reading books. Books seem trivial and at times hard to read. They fail to capture our imagination because they are just words on a piece of paper. Why not just use the technology at our hands? Isn't it much more engaging than a musty old book that's a hundred years old. You've probably heard many people say that. Going to the library seems archaic. Most people prefer to stay glued to their phones or their computers all day rather than reading from a book. They prefer to read online

Time Doesn't Exist

Image
I'd like to make one thing clear first of all. I consider that this world has two forms of time. The first form of time is what us humans use most of the time. This time involves years, eons, hours, months, and all the quantifiable forms of time. The second form of time is abstract. This is the fourth dimension that perceives different events happening at a different time. Without further ado, let's see why I believe the quantifiable time does not exist. Time is usually portrayed as an abstract idea. You can't really describe how time functions. Most people assume that time is linear progression. With this view you see timelines that details each event. If that were so, then how come time is so variable? How come time can be so intangible in our world? The time we use is time we apply to our surroundings is best seen by years, minutes, hours, and months. But these numbers can't be used to define time in our universe. In fact, a year is actually 365 days, 5

"A Clash of Kings" Review

You know how huge "A Game of Thrones" is? Well this book manages to be around a thousand pages which is two hundred more pages than the previous book. And "A Storm of Swords" is longer. This is one weird series. Without further ado, let's see how this holds up when compared to "A Game of Thrones." Since all of the characters have been established, the plot speeds along at a brisk pace. Arya is captured, Jon is going out beyond the wall, Stannis is trying to assert himself, Tywin is fighting Robb, Robb is doing nothing throughout the book, Catelyn does some stuff, Sansa is still stuck in King's Landing, Theon is trying to assert himself as king, Daenerys doesn't do anything, and Tyrion is being a boss. This book is full of twists and turns that left me really wanting to read more. This is one of the few books I can say that is a true page-turner. The conflicts that come along seem real and tangible and added depth to this book. Then the char

A Strain on the Friendship

Image
Sitting in that living room, I was angry. I was in my friend's house to play the Wii U with Toby, Wilson, and Andrew. I won't disclose my host's name for deference, but let it be known that I am enraged at him. Toby, Wilson, my friend, and I were playing Mario Party 9. We were playing this minigame which involved punching each other off a platform into the lava. Because we were all saints, we decided that we should all win first place by doing nothing. We waited for the timer to count down and by the thirty-second mark I was bored and started jumping around. Then he punched me off. I was this close to throwing the controller at him. I watched in horror as Toby and Wilson tried to avenge me but suffered the same fate I did. My friend won and did this victory dance while Toby, Wilson, and I were threatening to collaborate against him. Super Smash Bros. has nothing compared to Mario Party. When he won at the end, I swore to carry this grudge to my grave. Friendship is such

Random Rambles: Virtues and Morals

Is honesty a false virtue? As a kid I was always told to hold on to morals and virtues that holds society together. But more and more adults become corrupted to "sins" that define our human race. These sins are what made us thrive as a primitive species but this innate nature is being supressed in out society today. The line between virtue and sins is blurred now despite simplistic ways of viewing it as good vs. Bad. But are virtues and morals out of the picture now? Most stories would have you believe that you should find a set of morals and virtues that best suit your nature. This is how you would define yourself in a blurry world where such things are hard to come by at their purest. With your morals and virtues in place, life could never batter you down. As long as you hold onto yourself, you should find your Nirvana. Of course, it would be prudent to be open-minded on such affairs but the virtues should hold true. Thus I come to the crux of my argument. Are morals and vi
