Random Rambles: Virtues and Morals
Is honesty a false virtue? As a kid I was always told to hold on to morals and virtues that holds society together. But more and more adults become corrupted to "sins" that define our human race. These sins are what made us thrive as a primitive species but this innate nature is being supressed in out society today. The line between virtue and sins is blurred now despite simplistic ways of viewing it as good vs. Bad. But are virtues and morals out of the picture now?
Most stories would have you believe that you should find a set of morals and virtues that best suit your nature. This is how you would define yourself in a blurry world where such things are hard to come by at their purest. With your morals and virtues in place, life could never batter you down. As long as you hold onto yourself, you should find your Nirvana. Of course, it would be prudent to be open-minded on such affairs but the virtues should hold true.
Thus I come to the crux of my argument. Are morals and virtues flawed? Are virtues unattainable? Is ir unfair to have moral because that makes us too subjective? Nevertheless, we are still subjective due to our nature but will these perfect ideas exacerbate our subjectivity? Virtues are normally portrayed as superheroes of our society that can right every wrong. Obviously, that's a simplistic ideal but does that make virtues false? It is hard to define good or bad in this rapidly changing society where it depends on your own point of view.
I believe virtues are something amazing but a bit too rigid. Virtues do not allow a person to be perfect. Virtues can also be the downfall of man for such ideals. But the lack of virtues can make our society very untrustworthy that is full of ignorant and selfish people who twist virtues and morals to their benefit.
